We have all heard of salons for people and for our beloved pets. It seems that everyone enjoys being pampered. Pets are also becoming more commonplace in public areas where before only people were allowed to go. One great example of this is the human hair salons that many women and men spend time at while getting their hair cut and styled. Can you imagine dog-friendly salons? It is one of the newest trends and most people are enjoying it.
For the Love of Dogs
It may seem odd to see a dog strolling through the grocery store or enjoying the fireworks show each summer, but it is happening more often than you may realize. We love our pets and do not want to leave them home all day while we, not only work, but run errands. Our dogs do not enjoy being left behind all the time either. Small dogs, such as Boston terriers are great for taking around town while you go, but still most areas only allow service dogs. Times are changing though, and in many areas, dogs can go with you wherever you want to be.
Going Where the People Go
It may surprise you to know that many of the stores you walk into are now pet-friendly. It is sometimes up to management, so you should call ahead first, but the results may shock you. Rumor has it that Lowe’s, Home Depot, Macy’s, Urban Outfitters, Foot Locker, and even Barns and Nobel will welcome your well-behaved Fido into their doors. Many day spas and hair salons are included in the pet friendly movement that is sweeping the nation. Can you imagine being pampered by humans while receiving doggie kisses? Or Getting a mens haircut in Aliso Viejo with your dog sitting casually beside you? If you know where to go for a little TLC, it is possible that you can take your dog for a walk and then run all your errands.
Is Taking Fido Practical?
Admittedly, you would not want to take “mans best friend” out to see what you can find at the home depot if you have to worry about him growling at everyone he passes by. You would not want for him to tinkle in the aisles or do anything else that may be considered “naughty”. Therefore, the practicality of taking Fido out depends on the dog. If you have a nice mannered, trained dog, that will listen to you when you give a command; you should have a lot of fun taking him on his walk through a major chain store. Start out with small outings where you may only need to spend a little time to get him used to all the activities, and then work up to browsing around for an hour or two. The salon where you plan to spend a couple hours getting a perm may come after you know that activity will not bother him at all. You will want him to sit quietly beside you and not be nervous while there. If you can do that, there really isn’t a reason for it to be impractical; unless you are hoping to take him where foods and other stuff may be.
